Pictures are not just photos to stuff in boxes anymore. With the age of the internet and the growing pull of social media, pictures are validation of life; the way we share our moments and hearts with our friends and family. Selfies have become the kisses we blow and the hugs we give. They scream, “This is me. Please love me and accept me!”
Technology has proven that a picture is worth a thousand words or more, and that one image can float around for a lifetime. As a makeup artist, photographer, and mother; I have never seen a more key time to share (and question) our photos.
Here are a few questions I ping my Instagram account with:
What do you want people to know about you?
What are your images saying about you?
How can you most honestly represent you?
I challenge each of you to commit to image honesty (…of course, photo editing is OK…), so your public images are a reflection of who you really are. Let people know you are. Share your lives transparently. It is beautiful to be imperfect, flawed, and real. It makes you human.
There are lots of 365 challenges out there to share your life. Those challenges are meant to show honest snippets of your heart. I will be trying my hand at #CY365. Although I am fashionably late to the party, I want to share life with you this year and hope you will share mine.
